West Tensleep Lake
Evergreen-shaded West Tensleep Campground sits on the southern shore of 125-acre West Tensleep Lake that is open to kayaking, canoeing, and trout fishing. West Tensleep Lake Trail, which leads into the Cloud Peak Wilderness, begins just outside the campground. Off-road vehicle trails, scenic jeep roads, hiking and horseback riding trails and many fishing streams are available in the surrounding area.
THINGS TO KNOW
Getting Here:
Highway 14A, from Lovell, is extremely steep, a 10-percent grade and more, is winding, has several hairpin turns, and many blind corners. This is a challenging road during the summer season.
Weather:
You are at high elevations here in the Bighorn Mountains. Remember to bring warming clothing for evenings as it can become chilly.
Don't Move Firewood:
Prevent the spread of tree-killing pests by obtaining firewood near your destination and burning it on-site.

Driving Directions:
From Worland, Wyoming, take U.S. Highway 16 east 49 miles. Take West Tensleep Road (Forest Road 27) seven miles to campground.
Camping Info
Extra Car Fee: $9.00
Two non-towed vehicles may be parked per site. The first vehicle is included in the basic fee; the second vehicle is charged an extra fee collected at the campground.
Firewood: $6.00/bundle
Firewood bundles can be purchased from the campground host.
CLIMATE
TEMPERATURES
Spring temperatures range from 60°-70° F for the highs and 30°-45° F for the lows. Summer highs are in the 70°-80° F range with the lows reaching into the 40° F range.
RAINFALL
Most rain comes in May and June but come prepared for showers as they can happen all summer long.
SNOWFALL
Snow should be out of the mountains by early to mid May and shouldn't come around again until late September.
