Hettinger Group Area

Hettinger Group Campground is located 14 miles west of Buffalo, Wyoming on the east side of scenic Cloud Peak Skyway, near the Cloud Peak Wilderness Area. The surrounding Bighorn National Forest offers a wide variety of activities, including hiking, fishing, scenic driving and a number of historic sites. The campground is situated in a small meadow within a dense forest of lodgepole pine. Tie Hack Reservoir and several creeks are nearby.

THINGS TO KNOW

Getting Here:
Highway 14A, from Lovell, is extremely steep, a 10-percent grade and more, is winding, has several hairpin turns, and many blind corners. This is a challenging road during the summer season.
Weather:
You are at high elevations here in the Bighorn Mountains. Remember to bring warming clothing for evenings as it can become chilly.
Don't Move Firewood: 
Prevent the spread of tree-killing pests by obtaining firewood near your destination and burning it on-site.

Camping Info

Extra Car Fee: $9.00

Two non-towed vehicles may be parked per site. The first vehicle is included in the basic fee; the second vehicle is charged an extra fee collected at the campground.

Firewood: $6.00/bundle

Firewood bundles can be purchased from the campground host.

CLIMATE

TEMPERATURES
Spring temperatures range from 60°-70° F for the highs and 30°-45° F for the lows. Summer highs are in the 70°-80° F range with the lows reaching into the 40° F range.
RAINFALL
Most rain comes in May and June but come prepared for showers as they can happen all summer long.
SNOWFALL
Snow should be out of the mountains by early to mid May and shouldn't come around again until late September.
